In 2020, as a result of the country going into lockdown, we introduced online exercise sessions, from Monday-Friday. Over the past two and a half years these have gone out daily at 11.00am on our Facebook and YouTube channels. Not only have the sessions been specifically designed for stroke survivors, but they have been at five different levels, ranging from wholly seated exercise on a Monday for survivors who have heavily restricted movement and/or hemiplegia, to sessions designed for survivors that can walk unaided on a Friday.
Our thanks to all our instructors during this period – Matt, Anthony, Rhiannon, Taher, Alex and Keiran, and also to Dr Giles Yeates for delivering Tai Chi sessions.
The New Programme
We are delighted that these sessions will be continuing for the foreseeable future, but going forward we will be doing things slightly differently. Our instructors are putting together a course of 12 sessions for each level, in the following format:
Session 1: Mobility and movement
Session 2: Cardio (continuous)
Session 3: Strength (whole body)
Session 4: Core & Flexibility
Session 5: Mobility and movement 2
Session 6: Cardio (Intervals)
Session 7: Strength (upper body)
Session 8: Core & Range Of Motion
Session 9: Mobility and movement 3
Session 10: Cardio (Resistance endurance)
Session 11: Strength (lower body)
Session 12: Core & Functional Movement
This will be the same format for each level, with Matt running levels 1&4, Anthony doing levels 2&5, and a new instructor, Mathilde, looking after level 3.
These 12 sessions for each of the five levels – 60 sessions in total – will form our core exercise programme going forward. The very first session will be shown on Monday 3rd October 2022.
