During June we hosted a Community Event in London at the offices of Bolt Burdon Kemp. We were delighted to be joined by Lisa Pearson, Group Coordinator for the Ashford Kent Group, as our guest speaker.
Lisa shared her stroke survivor story, speaking openly about her recovery journey, rebuilding confidence and the importance of peer support. Her inspiring speech created a safe and welcoming space for attendees to connect and share their own experiences. One attendee commented on the ‘amazing courage by the stroke survivor to tell her story and to a big audience’.
We also welcomed John Suppiah who leads regular exercise sessions at the Different Strokes London West Group. John kindly agreed to travel into Central London and was a huge hit leading a fun seated exercise session, before helping everyone cool down with some Tai Chi. One attendee said ‘John was excellent, demonstrated the exercises really well, was super friendly and I’ve never laughed so much in an exercise class’.
This was the fifth event in a series of Community Events being held around the country this year. We will be taking a short break over the summer before returning on the road in September. Keep an eye on our social media channels to find out where we’ll be next.
Our Community Events are relaxed and informal, providing an opportunity for stroke survivors to meet others, share experiences, and learn from different perspectives. We intentionally keep the agenda light to allow plenty of time for conversation, connection, and peer support.
A huge thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the day such a success. From the inspiring stories shared to the laughter during the exercise session, the event was a wonderful reminder of the strength, resilience and positivity within the stroke community. We look forward to building on this momentum when our Community Events return later this year.
