Terms and Conditions of Use

Definitions
Different Strokes is the operating name of Different Strokes (Trustees) Limited therefore any reference to Different Strokes means Different Strokes (Trustees) Limited.

‘website’ means www.differentstrokes.co.uk and any website under the ownership or control of Different Strokes from which a link has been created to these Terms and Conditions.

‘User’, ‘you’, ‘your’ and ‘yours’ mean the person(s), firm, company or organisation accessing the website.

The copyright in the Site is owned by Different Strokes (Trustees) Limited and protected by United Kingdom and International copyright laws.

Documents on this Site may be copied for personal, non-commercial use only on the condition that copyright and source indications are also copied. However, some documents and photos may have been published on this site with the permission of the relevant copyright owners who are not Different) Strokes. Accessiblity
Different Strokes has aimed to make this website as inclusive as possible. The website has been designed in compliance with guidelines provided by:

We have considered the needs of people with cognitive deficits, aphasia, physical impairments, visual problems, and epilepsy. To make the website accessible for these people we have:

  • Included the option to resize text;
  • Included the option to use Browsealoud software
  • Used accessible website colours;
  • Avoided patterns in the design
  • Avoided animated images (which may cause flickering);
  • Confined the underlining of text for hyper links.
  • Avoided using block capitals

The website’s development has been overseen by younger stroke survivors and by an ergonomist with a particular interest in and knowledge of the problems younger stroke survivors face when using websites.

Privacy and Data Protection

This privacy policy only applies to the collection of your personal information by us and those we authorise. It does not cover any third party websites to which we may provide links. Third party websites may have their own privacy policies and/or terms and conditions of use.

Your personal information
When you are on our website and are asked for personal information, you are sharing that information with us alone, unless stated otherwise.

Information we collect
We collect information volunteered by you such as survey information, email address and your preferred means of communication. We also collect information about which pages on our website are accessed and when but not by whom.

We will not disclose any of your personally identifiable information, unless we have your permission.

Different Strokes (Trustees) Limited does not sell or rent user information to anyone.

How we use cookies
Cookies are small pieces of information of data created when you visit a website and which are stored in the cookies directory of your computer.

We use cookies along with web analytic tools to see how often the website is visited and how it is used. We use this information to help us provide a better service. Online Shop

The following terms and conditions apply to all orders for goods made on Different Strokes’ website. They do not apply to goods or services you have ordered from a website you have visited as a result of clicking on a link on our website, in which case you must read the Terms and Conditions on that website.

You may only place an order for goods if you agree to these Terms and Conditions. By placing an order you are deemed to have accepted these Terms and Conditions. This does not affect your statutory rights.

It is prohibited to reproduce the images in the Different Strokes shop for any purpose whatsoever.

Different Strokes will use all profits to provide services to support younger stroke survivors.

Prices are guaranteed with the exception of any changes in the rate of VAT or the imposition of any other taxes.

Your payment details are given using a secure server. To check you are in a secure area please look for the closed padlock at the bottom of your browser.

When you place your order you are allowing Different Strokes to use your personal details to fulfil your order. We will never pass your details to another organisation, but we may use them to tell you about something we think may be of interest to you, for example next years Christmas cards. If you would prefer not to receive such information please email info@differentstrokes.co.uk.

In the event of there being a problem with your order we will contact you by telephone, email or Royal Mail post.

In the unlikely event of the goods you have ordered being unavailable we will contact you to offer an alternative, and if this is not acceptable we will issue a full refund. Christmas cards will be available at the beginning of September. From then we will process and despatch your order by Royal Mail within five working days. After this, please allow a further five working days for your goods to reach you.

A postage and packing charge of £2.95 is applied to all orders, irrespective of size.
We regret we can despatch to UK addresses only.

If your goods are lost or damaged in the post we will respond promptly with replacement goods or a refund on the understanding that you will co-operate fully with any Royal Mail investigation and will keep any damaged goods and packaging for the purpose of any such investigation.

Online Transactions
Our online donation facility is provided by BMyCharity and our online payment facility is provided by Paypal. All online transactions take place via a secure server. Fundraising Standards Board

Different Strokes (Trustees) Limited is a member of the Fundraising Standards Board (FRSB) because it is committed to the highest standards in fundraising and strives to always work in a way that is effective, open and honest. It is dedicated to raising funds in the most cost effective ways in order to support younger stroke survivors.

The FRSB is an independent board that has been set up to help people give to charitable organisations with confidence. It’s primary function is to deal with complaints about fundraising activity from members of the public.

As a member of the FRSB Different Strokes (Trustees) Limited has agreed to adhere to the Institute of Fundraising’s Codes of Fundraising Practice and the FRSB’s Fundraising Promise.

When we provide a link to another organisation’s website we always ask permission if necessary and inform the organisation that we have linked to their website. It is not necessary for individuals or other charities and voluntary organisations to request permission to link to our website, but your site must not conflict with our aims and the link must not be used to imply Different Strokes endorsement of your website. We arrange reciprocal links with other charities and voluntary organisations which may be of particular interest to younger stroke survivors and their families or to healthcare professionals working with younger stroke survivors. Requests for Participants in Research Projects

For a small fee students and researchers wanting to advertise for participants can advertise on the research section of the website and get their project posted weekly on our Facebook page until the required number of participants has been recruited. In the first instance please contact info@differentstrokes.co.uk with details of your project.

We will make reasonable attempts to ensure listed projects have appropriate approval from a recognised body, but participants are responsible for satisfying themselves that appropriate approval procedures have been met before taking part.

Different Strokes is not responsible for and does not endorse any research project recruiting participants on its website or Facebook page.

Media Requests

Journalists researching stroke or wanting to use any of the content of the website, including Survivors Stories should email should not contact info@differentstrokes.co.uk or telephone 01908 317618 0r 0345 130 7172 with details of their request.

Use of Your Content

Any material you submit to or post on any public area of the website will be treated as non-confidential and you grant Different Strokes the right to use it on our website and in other publications. If you do not want to grant Different Strokes this right then please do not submit your contribution.

All material submitted is the sole responsibility of the author. All views and information are individual and should not be interpreted as the views, policy or advice of Different Strokes. Any material submitted by Different Strokes will be clearly identified.

Forums

Different Strokes provides the forums to enable younger stroke survivors to share experiences and support each other.
Everyone can read the discussions, but to reply or start a new topic you will need to register.

When you register with us you are stating that you are over 18 years of age or are a minor with parental consent. We advise parents who permit their children to use an interactive service that it is important that they make them aware of the potential risks.

You agree that any information you provide to us about yourself upon registration or at any time will be true.

Different Strokes’ forums are public so can be viewed by anyone searching the internet, and posts will be indexed by search engines such as Google. Therefore, please stay safe and be careful what you post. Do not post anything confidential, contact details or personal information which could identify you and put you or someone else at risk.

You agree not to post anything that could be interpreted as intentional advertising, selling or soliciting, spam, or self-publicity for commercial or business purposes. We will remove delete such material.

We hope you will make friends within the community but do not share personal information unless you absolutely trust that person is genuine. If you plan to meet anyone you have befriended on the internet, never go alone and always meet in a public place.

The forums are a community where we hope you will find and give support. Please be polite and respectful at all times and don’t post anything which others may find offensive. Remember that following a stroke it is common to be angry and emotional but if someone posts something which you find offensive or they are being rude and disrespectful, the best thing to do is to ignore them and report the post by emailing info@differentstrokes.co.uk and we will deal with the problem.

You use our forums at your own risk and we do not accept responsibility for any costs or expenses incurred as a result of any actions you take.

If anyone breaches these Terms and Conditions we will take action which may include deleting posts, issuing a warning and deleting that user’s account without prior notice and we are under no obligation to enter into correspondence about this.
