We’d like to send huge congratulations to our trustee Satinder Sanghera, for becoming both the Co-Chair of the Integrated Stroke Development Network North East, and the Professional GP representative on the NICE working group for Stroke Rehabilitation. This is fantastic news for stroke survivors and for our organisation.

As someone who survived a very severe stroke aged 20, and subsequently had an extensive career as a GP and a healthcare commissioner, Satinder is uniquely placed to understand stroke from both a medical and a personal perspective. Having worked closely with her in recent years I know how passionate she is about improving the lives of stroke survivors and ensuring that more people are aware of both younger stroke and Different Strokes, so there could not be anyone better to take on these two roles.”
Despite the challenges that the country faces due to Covid, the establishment of the Integrated Stroke Delivery Networks and the NICE consultation on stroke rehabilitation mean that we can be cautiously optimistic that there will be improvements across the whole stroke pathway. Having Satinder involved in these will be of great benefit.
The North East of England is the first to set up an Integrated stroke delivery network (ISDN) which has a board of stakeholders from NHS England, the hospital trusts, CCGs and a patient lead.
The patient lead feeds information between the board and local stroke patient groups and are therefore looking for stroke survivors from the NE who may wish to contribute to the new pathway of stroke delivery in their area. They will therefore need to be from this region and carers can also apply.
