Volunteer Awards 2020 – It’s Time to Nominate!

Volunteers are the foundation of Different Strokes. Many of our volunteers are stroke survivors or have been personally affected by stroke. It takes someone with an astounding spirit to not only work on their own recovery and healing but to turn this adversity into an opportunity to help others.

Time is a precious commodity – our community knows this more than most. We have over one hundred inspiring volunteers out there in the UK giving their precious time because they want to make a difference to others. Without these committed individuals, thousands of families affected by stroke would have faced the long road to recovery alone, un-informed and without the comfort blanket of understanding that our community provides.

We are a small organisation, but our volunteers make us mighty! We feel appreciative and humbled by our volunteers every single day! Once a year we dedicate volunteers week to celebrate these unsung heroes and to do this… we need your help!

We need you to nominate contenders for the following awards:

The Peter Shave Volunteer of the Year Award 2020

Nominate a Different Strokes volunteer who has helped you! From raising awareness of stroke and organising a local group, to answering calls on our helpline and everything and anything in between. Who do you think is an unsung hero who deserves recognition and why?

The Fundraising Hero of the Year 2020

In 2020, approximately 80 brave fundraisers took on challenges all with the selfless aim of raising funds to support younger stroke survivors and their families. From driving around, the country, hiking to Everest Base Camp and for some taking on challenges whilst facing their own in recovery-we were inspired by you all! Who do you want to celebrate for their philanthropic spirit and why?!

The Peer Support Champion Award 2020

What makes Different Strokes unique is peer support! We know the value of support that comes from a place of deep understanding and how much of an impact this can have on someone’s recovery. Who has inspired or supported you, cried with you or celebrated with you in 2019?

The Outstanding Contribution Award

Without volunteers, Different Strokes would simply not be able to support the thousands of families affected by a stroke that use our services each year. This award is for a Different Strokes volunteer who has gone that extra mile, from committing to start a group in their area, to working tirelessly to raise awareness of younger stroke wherever they go. We want to congratulate their commitment and recognise the difference they have made to others.

Closing Date for Nominations is Thursday 30th April at midnight Alternatively, you can call us on 0345 130 7172 or email us at volunteerawards@differentstrokes.co.uk
