Our Southampton Group Supporting Stroke Research

Since January 2018, Different Strokes Southampton have been helping Kate Morton, a Senior Research Assistant in the Department of Psychology at the University of Southampton, with a new project. The aim is to develop an online programme to support stroke survivors who want to self monitor their blood pressure, with the help of their GP surgeries. This project is funded by the Stroke Association and the British Heart Foundation.

Jo Elliott, Volunteer Co-ordinator of our Southampton group said:

“Kate has wanted to make sure right from the start of the project that it is designed to take everyone’s needs into account. She has therefore requested feedback from our members within meetings at various stages of the programme’s development . Our feedback has been instrumental in helping inform the project team’s initial thoughts and ideas in how to develop a programme that is as acceptable and motivating for people as possible.

On her last visit to the group in May she was able to demonstrate to the group just how much our feedback had impacted the development of this tool. The project team will be giving a presentation on this new programme at the North and South Stroke Assemblies where they will mention how crucial Different Strokes Southampton feedback has been at each stage.”

A big congratulations to all involved with this fantastic project! It is so lovely to see you using your experiences to help others.
