As March has come and gone, we’re still buzzing from the energy of the March On challenge!
For those of you who don’t know, March On isn’t your typical fundraiser; It’s about getting moving and making a difference for those who’ve faced stroke at a younger age. Whether you’re taking baby steps or aiming for a marathon, there’s a place for everyone in this annual challenge.
Whether you’re a survivor, a supporter, or a family member, you’re part of something bigger. During March On, participants set their own goals, whether it’s a lap around the living room or hitting 10,000 steps a day. Every step counts, and every penny raised goes towards supporting stroke survivors.
This year our incredible participants raised over £5000! It’s a real tribute to the power of community and the impact we can make when we come together. We couldn’t have done it without each and every one who took part or donated.
Alicia Kember, a young stroke survivor and participant, shared her story with us. “Back in August 2022, when I was just 23, I had a stroke. It knocked me down, but I’m getting back up,” Alicia said. “Running has been my goal, but it’s been tough. My body’s still figuring things out, but I’m determined to keep going.” Alicia’s journey reminds us that progress isn’t always easy, but it’s worth every step.
Alicia also highlighted the importance of Different Strokes’ support during her recovery. “They’ve been there for me when I needed it most.”
Ailie Mess, Different Strokes Volunteer and younger stroke survivor, also participated as part of an amazing national l group effort, she said: “Definitely feeling fitter, healthier and a bit slimmer; on top of raising funds and awareness so it was definitely worth it!”.
Now that March has ended, we are determined to keep the spirit of of March On alive. Let’s make sure we keep stepping up for young stroke survivors, showing them that they’re not alone and that we’re always here with limitless support. Together, we can make a real difference, one step at a time.
To all our participants and donors, a huge thank you. Your support means the world to us and to all those affected by stroke. Let’s keep marching on, stronger together.
