May is Stroke Awareness Month
Its a simple message that saves lives and helps to prevents stroke … Watch Oliver Lilburn, stroke at 18, interview our Medical Advisor, Professor Pankaj Sharma, to find out why he thinks it is so important to spread the ‘Stop Salt Stop Stroke’ message:
Here Oliver interviews our patron, Megan Giglia, to find out why she is supporting our campaign and thinks you should too. Megan had a stroke at 27 and has since retrained as a paracyclist for Team GB:
Masterchef semi-finalist Saira Hamilton of Small Aubergine in Sawbridgeworth also supports our campaign and has created an exclusive no salt recipe for Different Strokes:
Thank you to Saira for making the recipe available to download here. You can also click here to follow the steps and cook along with Saira. Why not invite your friends and host a dinner party to raise funds for Different Strokes. Bon appetit!
All videos filmed by Greg Hollingworth who had a stroke at 28.
- Check food labels and look for reduced salt options (e.g. baked beans, ketchup, gravy).
- Taste food before adding salt – your tastebuds will quickly adapt to less or no salt. Use garlic and other spices instead.
- We are creating a bank of low salt recipes. ‘Like’ our Facebook page and follow us @diffstrokes for updates. We’d love to hear from you too – message or tweet us with your taste pledges, favourite recipes and tips.
Could you hold your own Stroke Awareness event for Different Strokes, or take posters and leaflets to your local hospital or GP surgery?
