£1,000 Donation from Freightliner

Different Strokes is delighted to have received a £1,000 donation from Freightliner. Jane Trevett, who nominated us for this grant, her daughter Emma, and her boss Mark Rice, ERTMS Project Manager, visited our offices on Monday 13th February. It was lovely to talk with them about our work, and to hear about Emma’s ongoing recovery after having a CVST stroke in 2020.

Jane said, “Emma had a stroke without warning in August 2020. Not only did this completely change her life, but because this happened in lockdown she was not allowed any visitors during her hospital admissions.  Online information therefore became essential, and we received a lot of this through the Different Strokes Facebook group. Having access to this group and online information produced by the charity has been a positive experience and has helped both Emma and I understand that there are lots of stroke survivors who are all having very different journeys. When I heard that Freightliner had a scheme to nominate charities to receive donations, I submitted a nomination for Different Strokes.”

Austin Willett, CEO of Different Strokes commented, “We’re really pleased to receive these funds from Freightliner. From talking with Jane we know how supportive they have been as her employer, and we really appreciate them offering direct support to our charity as well through making this donation to us. In addition, we are very grateful for them taking the time to visit us; in particular it was great to hear from Emma about her journey since she had a stroke. These funds will enable us to continue our essential work of supporting younger stroke survivors, so that more individuals who have a stroke without warning, like Emma, will be able to benefit from the support that we offer and know that they are not alone in what they are going through.”
