The number of young people suffering strokes is
"rising dramatically", but 84% of people still believe
it only happens to the elderly
Despite being the leading cause of death and disability in the UK awareness of stroke in the under 65’s remains dangerously low. We recently did a poll with Consumer Intelligence that showed that a staggering 84% of people believe stroke only happens to the elderly.
World Stroke Day is on October 29th and this year we need your help! We would like to come together as a community of younger stroke survivors and raise awareness that stroke can happen at any age.
We would love for you to get involved in any of the activities listed below, from contacting your local paper and sharing your story, to updating your profile picture on Facebook – no contribution is too small!
Press & Media
We will be sending press releases sharing survivors’ stories to all major UK media outlets and trying our best to get as much media coverage as possible. Could you contact your local radio and newspapers and ask them to feature your ‘survivor story’?
Events
Alongside other stroke organisations we will be attending UCL World Stroke Day Forum in London on Tuesday 29th October – a free event to empower stroke survivors to contribute to and influence research and rehabilitation at University College London. Tickets are now sold out for this event.
Social Media
Overlay your profile picture on Facebook with our custom frame! A simple way to do your bit to raise awareness of younger stroke #NotJustTheElderly.
