Plan your own event
You don’t need to spend weeks planning a complicated fundraising event to raise bags of cash for Different Strokes. We’ve listed some of the most simple and popular events – you could have one up and running in no time at all and we’ll give you as much support and advice as you need.
Cake sale
Who can resist a good old-fashioned home-made cake sale! So bake away and perhaps get some friends to bake too. Sell your wares at work or anywhere else you will find hungry customers. Does your village or local church have a summer of Christmas fete where you could have a table?
Quiz
Whether it’s a traditional pub quiz or something topical, this is a great way to raise money and get a lot of people involved.
Raffle
You and your friends must be able to produce lots of prizes (think of all those unwanted gifts). Then all you need is a book of raffle tickets and a captive audience (work, pub, local event?). Please only sell your raffle tickets at the place/event – if you sell them outside then your raffle becomes a Grand Draw and there are rules and restrictions that apply.
Sponsorship
Almost anything can be sponsored – losing weight, cream cracker eating, head shave, sitting in a tub of baked beans, silence (a great one for children), swimming, giving something up such as chocolate, as well as the obvious runs and walks.
Feed your friends
Invite your friends round for a meal but make them pay (either restaurant or take away prices depending on the depth of their pockets).
Put on a show
Persuade a local band, drama group or choir to put on a show for us. As well as ticket sales you can raise money from a bar and perhaps a raffle (local businesses can be asked for a prize in exchange for a mention in the programme or on the poster).
Seasonal Events
Organise your own seasonal event and promote with the posters below!
Collection boxes
Do you know somewhere that would take a Collecting Box – perhaps your local pub or corner shop? Please contact us by emailing jo.aurora@differentstrokes.co.uk or info@differentstrokes.co.uk or by calling us on 0345 130 7172 or 01908 317 648 and start raising money in your local area!
Don’t forget to publicise your fundraising event!
If your event is open to the public why not write to your local paper (they may have a special “What’s On” section) and ask them to publicise the details. This will also increase awareness of stroke in younger people and might inspire others to fundraise too.
