Our Stroke Support Group in the West Kent Area has been established by volunteer, and fellow younger stroke survivor, Lisa Beaumont.

The group was founded in March 2018 and provides a free monthly meeting with a guest speaker to educate and inform attendees. To enable survivors of stroke at working age to live well after stroke.
The group offer a programme of visitors and speakers in response to members’ needs monthly. In April 2025, the group were visited by Alison Marsden, Social & Therapeutic Practitioner, who spoke about gardening for wellbeing.
Alongside the monthly meetings there is a rehabilitation programme to benefit members and their families.

Subsidised Hydrotherapy
We’re pleased to be developing a new hydrotherapy option for group members. Sessions will be guided by a qualified neuro physiotherapist and will include individual assessments to make sure support is tailored to each person’s needs. Hydrotherapy can be a gentle way to improve movement, confidence and wellbeing after stroke. There will be a cost to attend, but sessions will be partly subsidised by the group to help make them more affordable. We expect more information about timings and how to get involved soon.
Group Neuro Physio Exercise Class
The group neuro-physio exercise class is for stroke survivors. This is a weekly closed group class led by Personal Trainer Simon Roll from Neuro Rehabilitation Kent. A personalised assessment with a neuro-physio is necessary to assess suitability to join the class. Each session costs £20 per member and subsidies can be offered from the group’s fundraising when needed. It is a close-knit group which combines a social element for improving mental and physical health together.
Social Events
Alongside the formal meetings and therapy programmes the West Kent Stroke Support Group also organise social events for members, and their carers, to meet socially. Depending on the season the group may meet socially indoors or out to enjoy time together.
Meeting Times
The Stroke Support Group West Kent rotates the day of the week they meet each month.
The meetings run from 11.00 to 12.30 and regularly have guest speakers.
