Find out more about our Stroke Support Group in West Kent.
Our Stroke Support Group in the West Kent Area has been established by volunteer, and fellow younger stroke survivor, Lisa Beaumont.
You can read Lisa’s survivor story HERE.The Stroke Support Group West Kent is a place where younger survivors can go to meet other people affected by stroke and take part in activities to aid rehabilitation. The group regularly hosts guest speakers to enhance their mission statement:
‘Working to enable working-age stroke survivors in West Kent to live well after stroke’
Meeting Times
The Stroke Support Group West Kent meets monthly for peer support and rotates the day of the week they meet each month. The upcoming meetings are:
- October 15th – Natalie McKenzie from BIS Services – Cognitive Rehabilitation after brain injury
The meetings run from 11.00 to 12.00 and regularly have guest speakers. If you are interested in coming along please contact Lisa Beaumont by emailing westkent@differentstrokes.co.uk
The group also offers a group neuro-physio exercise class for stroke survivors. A personalised assessment with a neuro-physio is necessary to assess suitability to join the class. Charges for the sessions do apply so please contact the Lisa Beaumont by emailing westkent@differentstrokes.co.uk to find out more.
Lisa is currently developing an ‘Communication Cafe’ for aphasia support. Please contact Lisa Beaumont for further information and to register by emailing westkent@differentstrokes.co.uk.
The group is also supported by Johanna Booker who is the group Volunteer Carer Coordinator. Johanna draws on her own experience of supporting her husband to be a central contact for the group. Johanna supports the group by signposting other carers many of whom are spouses of a stroke survivor.
The first Carers Meeting will be Friday 20th September at 11:00. To register your interest to attend and find out the location details please contact Johanna by emailing johanna.booker@differentstrokes.co.uk.
