Group Coordinator

We are always happy to hear from stroke survivors, or someone with a personal connection to stroke, who is interested in setting up a Different Strokes Peer Support group in their area.

We have a national network of exercise and peer support groups which are run by Different Strokes Volunteers.  A Group Coordinator is the main point of contact for the group and maintains contact with Head Office.

Setting up a new group is a big commitment and the most successful groups are those where several volunteers are involved in the running of the group. Please read our ‘Start Up Pack’ for information and guidance of what is involved in starting and running a Different Strokes Group.

Volunteer Befriender

Our Volunteer Befrienders provide one-on-one peer support to younger stroke survivors (aged 16-25), offering a listening ear and shared experiences to help others feel less alone in their recovery. This role is flexible and can be carried out via phone or email, depending on the needs of the individual.

Requirements:

  • Must be a stroke survivor who had a stroke before the age of 25.
  • Able to offer empathetic, non-judgmental support based on lived experience.
  • Good communication and listening skills.
  • Comfortable volunteering remotely.
  • Reliable and able to commit to a minimum of one support session per month.

Befrienders are not counsellors but are trained and supported to provide peer-to-peer support, helping young stroke survivors navigate life after stroke. Full guidance is provided.

If you’re passionate about making a difference and want to support others on their recovery journey, we’d love to hear from you!
