Clodagh Dunlop Instagram Takeover

During 2020, we are inviting some inspiring stroke survivors to ‘Takeover’ our Instagram for a week. They will be sharing their stories, what life has been like for them post-stroke and interacting with our community over on Instagram. I am very pleased to announce our first guest poster, the marvellous Clodagh Dunlop.

Clodagh Dunlop, aged 40, is a Detective in the Police Service of Northern Ireland. Her life was turned upside down in April 2015 when she had a brainstem stroke, which left her with locked-in syndrome. There is no cure for locked-in syndrome, her prognosis was that she would forever be a prisoner trapped inside her body. Clodagh astonished her doctors, family and colleagues with her determination, courage and positivity when faced with the life-changing condition. Although she still has some disabilities, Clodagh has returned to work full-time as a Detective, carrying out all the duties expected of the role.

Clodagh documented her recovery on the social media platforms Facebook and Instagram, gaining a supportive following across the world. She has won numerous awards for her inspirational recovery, including Belfast Telegraph Woman of the Year, British Association of Woman in Policing Inspirational Officer and National Adult Courage Award Stroke Association. Despite working full time, Clodagh provides motivational lectures and is a respected and recognisable advocate for stroke survivors. Clodagh has lobbied government ministers in Westminster on health bills to make changes in legislation to reshape stroke services.

“Just when the caterpillar thought the world was over, it became a butterfly.”

Different Strokes Marketing Co-ordinator, Lauren McMillan said:

” We are so excited about the Instagram Takeovers we have planned in 2020. Different Strokes has always been passionate about pushing forward the voices of younger stroke survivors and their families and takeovers are another way for us to continue to do this in 2020 and beyond.

Clodagh is a truly phenomenal person who I know inspires so many. We are so lucky to have her on board and hope you will all follow along!”
