Different Strokes

Our network of exercise groups is run by stroke survivor volunteers who are supported by our Group Development Manager.

The groups are open to all stroke survivors of working age.  Classes are structured to suit all abilities and everyone is welcome.  You may bring a carer or partner if you wish.

We have a self-referral policy so that stroke survivors are welcome to join at any time and attend as many sessions as they wish.  Attending regularly helps to improve fitness, increase confidence and independence, and promote feelings of wellbeing and positivity.

In addition to the exercise session, local groups often organise guest speakers to speak on topics that are of interest to the group members (e.g. speech and language therapy, nutrition, welfare rights, etc).

The exercise groups help to break down the isolation that many stroke survivors experience after being discharged from rehabilitation.  Members often organise additional social activities to complement the weekly exercise session.
