When you say 'stroke' to most people, the image this creates is of an elderly person and whilst a high percentage of strokes occur in those over 64, at least 1 in 4 strokes happen to someone of working age or younger!  This number is increasing with the total people having strokes aged 20 to 64 increasing by 25% from 1990 to 2010 worldwide!

Thank you to Saira for making the recipe available to download here.  You can also click here to follow the steps and cook along with Saira.  Why not invite your friends and host a dinner party to raise funds for Different Strokes.  Bon appetit!

Get involved:

  • Check food labels and look for reduced salt options (e.g. baked beans, ketchup, gravy).
  • Taste food before adding salt - your tastebuds will quickly adapt to less or no salt.  Use garlic and other spices instead.
  • We are creating a bank of low salt recipes.  'Like' our Facebook page and follow us @diffstrokes for updates.  We'd love to hear from you too - message or tweet us with your taste pledges, favourite recipes and tips.

Could you hold your own Stroke Awareness event for Different Strokes, or take posters and leaflets to your local hospital or GP surgery?
