We are delighted to announce that Different Strokes has been voted as Sainsbury’s Central Logistics Local Charity of the Year. We are now entering a 12-month partnership with the Sainsbury’s Central Logistics team.
Jim Honeyman-Bristow and his colleagues were asked to nominate causes close to their heart. Jim who is a younger stroke survivor himself nominated Different Strokes . The nominated charities were shortlisted down to just 4 worthy causes who then visited Sainsburys Distribution Centre in Daventry to present to a panel, after which a single charity was selected to be the focus of fundraising and support efforts for that team.
“I’m thrilled that Different Strokes has been chosen as our Central Logistics Charity of the Year as they helped me so much during my recovery from three strokes in 2015 and 2016. I especially valued the Milton Keynes local area group that I attended as part of my rehabilitation, and the sense of community that I found on the Facebook group. Being able to communicate with people who understood what I was go
ing through really helped me to make sense of what I was feeling, and gave me hope for the future. Different Strokes really does make a genuine difference to the lives of stroke survivors in so many ways and I’m proud that Sainsbury’s has recognised this”
Last year Whizz Kidz held this honour and a fantastic £20,000 was raised through events including Bake-offs, London to Amsterdam and Coast to Coast cycle rides and Three Peaks Challenge.
On behalf of all at Different Strokes we want to thank Jim for his nomination and support throughout this process. We also want to thank the Sainsbury’s Central Logistics Team & Panel, who had a very difficult day choosing between four very worthy causes. We are excited to embark on this partnership and look forward to keeping you updated on planned events and how the funds raised will benefit younger stroke survivors across the UK.
